| Welcome to this website for Proposition 101. | |
|
Denver politicians recently DOUBLED registration "fees," already way above the true cost of registering cars. They spend the money elsewhere. That's a $265 million yearly tax increase. Voters never approved that tax, as the constitution requires. Proposition 101 makes that annual "fee" a simple, flat $10 per vehicle (still more than government's $4 actual processing cost).
| They also originally proposed to track how many miles are driven, and tax drivers for every mile! They also imposed on car rentals a new "fee" (tax) without voter approval, while providing no direct benefit to car rental customers. Read Senate Bill 09-108. Click here. Proposition 101 will reject these crazy and lawless ideas. | |
| The only effect of Proposition 101 on school district revenue is on the vehicle ownership tax, reduced in four yearly steps. State aid is already required by law to replace 100% of that revenue effect. Schools will not face ANY revenue loss. | |
| Colorado taxes are regressive; they cost proportionately more to low-income people. Proposition 101 reduces that unfairness by lowering taxes on basic needs--vehicles and phones. That relief benefits most those who have the least. | |
| Even the liberal Denver Post opposed on July 12, 2010 a proposed Denver tax increase. Their editorial ended: "the council needs to remember we already have a government we can't afford." Wow! Amen! | |
| It is economic insanity to raise taxes (also fees) in this depression. If raising them is bad, it's likewise true that lowering them is good for the economy. That's what Proposition 101 proposes to do. | |
| There are many problems with the tax system. You know what they are. Proposition 101 limits state and local government charges in just three areas--the ones that are most unfair. They are VEHICLE, INCOME, and TELECOMMUNICATION TAXES. | |
| |
| Here's another example. Your phone "fees" have wrongly paid at least 10,000 welfare cases for reduced cost phone service. Proposition 101 will end this giveaway scheme. Note, even the reporter ended the story calling the charge a "tax." Click here and here, and here. | |
| Look at the cartoon taxpayer on this website menu, being held up by his ankles to empty his pockets for Big Brother. That's the sad reality today. Click on the hapless taxpayer image for a special treat—the Beatles' “Taxman” song. | |
| Proposition 101 is simple, short, fair, and clear, unlike the tax code imposed by politicians. In only 250 words, Proposition 101 provides relief from excess taxes, reduces tax complexity and paperwork, and offers a more fair tax system. Some will complain tax breaks are phased in too slowly. That's a sign of this ballot issue's moderation. | |
| Proposition 101 helps everyone equally, with a tax reform easy to understand and apply. For an average working family, saving $500+ the first year can equal months of groceries, new tires for the car, new kitchen floor tile, etc. Besides helping your family, Prop. 101 helps the economy. Most people will spend their tax savings. That will increase jobs, savings, and investment. It will even raise sales tax revenue. There is also a money multiplier effect, when A buys from B, then B buys from C, C from D, etc. | |
| On yearly average, this modest tax relief slows future state government spending growth about 1%. To appreciate that minor impact, look here at official state spending charts. They are real eye-openers! | |
| The gas tax is not cut. Vehicle taxes are not pledged to road repairs. Much of Colorado's federal “stimulus” is for capital construction, like roads. Future tax increases are allowed. Proposition 101 will help vehicle purchases and accelerate replacement of gas-guzzling, high-polluting cars. This is a more realistic and practical approach than the wasteful federal "cash for clunkers" boondoggle. | |
|
Finally, here are two reminders of why our Founding Fathers broke with
an oppressive English king. These justifications were written in the
Declaration of Independence in 1776.
"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance....imposing Taxes on us without our Consent..."
| Tax relief. Tax reform. Tax simplicity. Tax fairness. They are building blocks of self-government. Proposition 101 is about Freedom, and its success is up to you. | |
Tell everyone to vote YES on 101. This brief and simple tax relief, particularly its $10 annual flat fee for vehicle registration, is VERY popular. Thanks for your support.
